Surat (Gujarat): During the coronavirus pandemic, even as all the beds are getting full in hospitals, after the death, there is no place in the crematoriums for COVID-19 victims.
The situation in the crematoriums of Surat is frightening where the bodies of COVID-19 patients are waiting for the final rites. The bodies of those died a normal death are also waiting for their turn.
According to government statistics, there are 3 to 8 deaths due to coronavirus daily in Surat. Around 80 bodies are coming to the Ashwani Kumar cremation ground every day. Similarly, 30 to 35 dead bodies are coming to the Kurukshetra cremation ground in Jahangirpura daily. However, not all of these bodies are of coronavirus patients.
Earlier, the Ashwini Kumar cremation ground used to have 30-35 dead bodies every day. Similarly, in Kurukshetra cremation ground, 10-15 dead bodies used to come every day.
Ashwini Kumar Cremation Land Minister Prashant Kabra said that the number of dead bodies has increased.
“Earlier about 30 dead bodies used to come everyday, now 80 are coming. The figure may increase even more than this,” he said.
